Why is school counseling important for your student?
OHVA School Counseling Mission Statement
The OHVA School Counseling Department delivers a comprehensive, data-informed program aligned with the ASCA National Model that supports the academic, career, and social emotional development of all students.
We tailor support to the individual — while ensuring that every student, regardless of background or circumstance, has equitable access to the resources, support, and opportunities needed to thrive.
Through inclusive practices and collaboration with families, educators, and stakeholders, we remove barriers to learning and guide students toward lifelong success from enrollment, through graduation, and beyond.
OHVA School Counseling Vision Statement
The OHVA School Counseling Department envisions all students achieving their full potential through a comprehensive counseling approach that fosters self-reliance, adaptability, and future-readiness skills.
Our hope is that, beyond college- and career-ready, our students graduate as life-ready — developing into confident leaders and engaged citizens who contribute meaningfully to an evolving global society.
What qualifications do OHVA online school counselors have?
Each school counselor at OHVA is required to hold a master’s degree in school counseling — at minimum — and meet state certification/licensure standards in school counseling.
Maintaining certification includes ongoing professional development to stay current with education reform and challenges facing today’s students. Professional association membership enhances the school counselor’s knowledge and effectiveness.
