Tuition & Costs

Your child deserves a high-quality education you can trust—without the high cost. No tuition is required for Ohio students to enroll in or attend Ohio Virtual Academy (OHVA), an online public school for Ohio residents in grades K–12.

As an online public school, Ohio Virtual Academy offers Ohio state residents a tuition-free, high-quality academic choice when it comes to their public school. OHVA is not a private school, nor is it a homeschool that requires parents to be teachers. OHVA is a tuition-free, online alternative to brick-and-mortar public schools, staffed with state-certified teachers who deliver instruction online.

Like brick-and-mortar public schools, some common household supplies are not provided and may need to be purchased by families to enhance their child’s online learning experience. Read below for more information about how online public schools like OHVA are funded and what costs families may expect for their child to attend an online public school.

Families in Ohio do not pay tuition for their student(s) to attend OHVA. Students must have access to a computer with an internet connection to attend an online public school. To ensure you have the equipment you need for school, OHVA provides each student with a loaner laptop, which must be returned when the student leaves the school.

The concept of public funding is at the heart of the tuition-free model of online public schools. Just like brick-and-mortar public schools, Ohio Virtual Academy is funded by taxpayer dollars and state education budgets. This financial support ensures that students can access quality education without the burden of online school fees.

Financial benefits of online public schools vs. brick-and-mortar public schools include:

  • Lower overhead costs
  • Fewer costs for transportation and facilities
  • Flexibility to accommodate work and school schedules
  • Eliminating geographic boundaries to quality schools
  • Greater accessibility of support services
