About
Real community. Real impact.
Our community works together to make Ohio Virtual Academy (OHVA) a place where everyone belongs. Our students, families, teachers, and staff tell our story best.
Why Families Choose Ohio Virtual Academy
Everyone’s experience is personal at OHVA. Check out what our students and families have to say about theirs!
I’ve been here since kindergarten, and now I’m graduating. And my experience has been, in one word, amazing! There’s been so many things that I’ve been able to take advantage of that I’m so thankful for. OHVA has really helped me achieve my goals, and I’ve been able to take multiple Ohio College Credit Plus classes.
I’ve really seen my kids flourish in a lot of different ways. The fact that they can spend time exploring different career options early on has allowed them to really hone in on what they want to do in life.
With all the career exploration courses and college pathways I’ve been able to look into throughout high school, I’m really excited to be able to apply those toward getting my first job!
What People Say About OHVA

They have tons of clubs that you can connect through and other opportunities and programs that they offer [where] you can go and meet friends. And I have a lot of friends that I still hang out with. Even the high school dances, I love those. Those are great ways to meet a lot of friends too!
OHVA is for everyone. We have athletes. We have artists. We have performance artists. We have it all. It’s really whatever you want to make it! You can make this experience work for you.
With OHVA, I get to do a lot of work on my own and learn through the lessons outside of class as well, which has been really nice.
My goal was to raise sons who are confident, who are able to see what they’re interested in and pursue it, to be well-rooted, to know what brings joy, and have a good sense of family. I think online school has really helped them connect through all the different grades. The little guys can learn what the big guys are doing, and there’s so much collaboration that goes on. That was really my goal, and to see that come to fruition is just beautiful.
We have the most welcoming, supporting culture that I’ve ever had the privilege to be a part of. I have never seen administration, teachers, and parents all working together in such a beautiful way with the same goal in mind. That makes a huge difference because when you have teachers who feel supported from the top all the way down, they come into that classroom invested in their job because they know that they’ve got a really great one. And these parents come [to] really trust you with their children, and it’s just a great environment to work and learn. It all goes hand in hand. That's something that is so unique to [K12] and OHVA, especially.
I’m really passionate about teaching and leading. And becoming a student mentor was definitely a big way for me to grow in that area.
There is so much more benefit in being able to be with your children, be present, and see how they are progressing academically, and then socially because they get to be involved more in the community. The flexibility is great to be able to travel and do different things that we just can’t do during traditional school.
Camp is really an amazing experience. It’s the social, it’s the fun, it’s getting out—it’s shutting that computer down, but at the same time, it’s also making connections between students and staff, as well as students [with] other students.
[Online] school is really great for setting your own pace as far as making sure that your day is arranged with your personal life, your activities, and your kid’s own personality. We can arrange our day in such a way that they can be comfortable, complete their credits, and go on.
Without OHVA, I couldn’t have gone to a fencing tournament in Paris because I would have missed too much school. But through OHVA, I can train more … I can mix up my schedule, get more training hours in, and travel to more tournaments with flexibility.
The teachers focus more on what my son can do than what he can’t do, and they don’t worry if he needs to fidget in class because of his sensory issues. OHVA was the third school we brought our son to, and it works best for us; the teacher support is what sets it apart.
I like that it’s a super safe environment, there is no meanness or bullying, and there are super nice teachers. If people decide to enroll next year, they won’t regret it because it’s such a great school.
